During the winter of 1984-85, Oil Creek State Park developed a cross-country ski area with a network of 11.1 miles of marked trails, on the plateau of the east rim of the gorge at McCrea Farm. Oil Creek State Park has one of the best Cross Country Ski Trails in north western PA. Due to it location at the southern edge of the snow belt, the park gets plenty of lake effect snow during the winter season. As nature enthusiasts, it is crucial for us to support and conserve our state parks.
If you're looking for ways to make a positive impact and support the conservation efforts at Oil Creek State Park, helping to clean and maintain the cross country trails is a great start. The collection of trail that make up the cross country ski area are used throughout the year. During the non-winter months the trails are used by walkers, hikers, and runners. During months when there is snow on the ground hiking on the trails is discouraged to enhance the cross country ski experience.
