Accessibility Project Vision

It is our goal to improve inclusivity by supporting Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility within the park. This is a cooperative effort among the Friends of Oil Creek State Park, DCNR, and our sponsors.

The rugged nature of Oil Creek State Park is both its amazing feature and its curse when it comes to accessibility for those with physical disabilities. The parks scenic beauty, native plants and animals, and historic significance to the birth of the oil industry make it an outstanding place to visit. However its rustic charm presents challenges to those with disabilities.

This is an effort to remove some of those challenges. Through this project we hope to install handicapped parking pads, add handicapped accessible picnic areas with restrooms along the bike trail and some hiking trails, and add wildlife viewing areas along the bike trail.

We recognize the challenges of this project in terms of planning, funding, and time. We know it won't be easy and that it will take time but we believe that we are the group that should take on this project.

As new bike trail construction occurs and the existing bike trail is rejuvenated, we hope to add facilities that make the trails more usable by everyone.

Through fund raising opportunities such as sponsorships, grants and public support, we hope to incrementally obtain the funds needed for our projects goals.

We know that we will need help in the following areas:

Community involvement is a key component of this project. If you have ideas and want to become involved please contact Friends of Oil Creek State Park, P.O. Box 1273, Oil City, PA 16301 or email Jen McAlevy or John Kolojejchick.
